SEBASI No.569 - Reading uncomfortable books @ Chae Sa Jang (Author of Broad and Shallow Knowledge for Intellectual Conversations)
I've read a book a day for three years, which means I have read around 1000 books in that period. People ask me, "What kind of books do you read?" My answer is, "Try to find uncomfortable books." I discovered that I could understand various fields and find the connecting links when I read uncomfortable or uninteresting books. There are some people who ask me, "Should I read a book?" It's okay, you don't need to read books. When people say "humanities is about reading the classics," I think this is only a half-truth. The other half of humanities is connected with our experiences in life and not written in a book. Doesn't the most uncomfortable book exist in reality and not within a book?
